More Deals to celebrate

It's been way too long since I have shared my treasure stories.
I found two great purses last week....The first is a black leather Tommy Hilfiger - simply adoreable purse and then a Liz Clayborne bigger bag, but still a purse, but big enough to fit my Kindle and computer. Both were brand new...with store tags - Total for both - under $10.00. Best part of the deal, I have had so many people ask me where I got my black leather purse. I smile and they say...and I quote, "don't tell me this is one of your deals that you get?" I just smile and then say, yes...it sure is!
Happy Trails!
Let me know your best bargain!

Storage

We finally got new attic stairs this weekend...yeah! I have been waiting almost 2 years, I hate to say it, I was the one who broke them and we just haven't had time or the handyman to put up a new set. I have to say, I can't wait to get my stuff stored back where it belongs till I need it.
The thing I'm most anxious to do is go through the stuff up there, that I haven't missed for so long and donate it! Yes, donate it! It feels so good to donate the items that I haven't missed or that I don't need anymore. We just finished our taxes and those donations really add up. It's does take longer these days to donate the way you need to, just in case you get audited, but it's worth it. I have 3 bags open when I go through drawers, bins, closets, etc. One for donations, one for the trash and one to keep. This works so well. As soon as I am done with the purging process I take one to the garbage, one goes into the car to drop off at St. Vincent DePaul and one goes back into the bin or in one of the closets in the house for another season.
Trust me, mark the calendar and decide which room, closet or area of the house needs to be organized and just do it! It helps the organization you are donating to, it clears more space for you to reorganize your own space and it feels great!
Let me know what you do with your donations....do you give them to the local rescue mission, Goodwill, or do you just throw them out? Once again, if you donate, you will be happy when you do your taxes! Trust me on this one!

Tax Day!!

If you haven't started to donate for this next year!!! Start now! We write off so much every year with just the items that we don't use anymore. Old bikes, clothes, pool and beach supplies, dishes, etc.
We don't know how long we will be able to get credit for donations, so give yourself a head start and start donating. My favorites are...St. Vincent DePaul, Salvation Army, The Red, White and Blue Store, and of course The Light of Life Rescue Mission.

Tax Deduction....

Donate, donate, donate!
We had a fire nearly 10 years ago and since that time I have been a little more educated on what do I really need to keep. When you loose everything, it becomes very clear how much you don't need!
Somehow you acquire more than you need and so, since my children are both young adults now, I have a system where I donate everything that I haven't used in 6 months. That means, clothes, dishes, furniture, small appliances, etc. I take them to a local resale shop that gives its profits to the homeless. I get a tax receipt and over the last 5 years, we have written off thousands of dollars of donations.
One of the best parts about my new hobby is that I have more space, lots more space. I don't have clutter! I have downsized and feel great about it.

Get a system that works for you and stick to it.
I have a bag that I keep open for donations and as I see something that I don't use anymore...it goes straight into the bag. When the bag gets full, I take everything out, write it down on a piece of paper and then put the bag in my car and stop on my way home from work. When I drop it off, I get a tax receipt and then staple the receipt to my list. When tax time comes you won't believe how much you can write off of your bottom line. It's a beautiful thing!

Happy donating!

Decide today to change the way you think about spending...

Decide today that you are going to visit just one resale shop to find that black sweater (0r whatever you need) instead of going to Macy's. Believe me, I do this and I have been so fortunate to find just what I was looking for. Time and time again this has happened where I would have found something at Macy's, but wouldn't pay the $50 dollars or more. I would invest a little more time to go to one or two resale shops and found a beautiful sweater that was twice the quality and $5.00. Yes, only $5.00 or even less!
It's worth it...especially now with the economy. Change the way you think and start saving huge $$.

It takes time and creative energy...

I try to go to as many local resale shops as I can, mostly so that I can let friends and family know if it's worth the trip. I don't waste my time at places that aren't in good areas of town or if they aren't clean. This makes a huge difference in the quality of the items you will find. I have a list in my head of things I'm looking for. Usually this list includes things that I need for clients that are moving into new apartments or for family and friends. I am always looking for things that I can add to my treasures in my house or office. But, that isn't my number one goal!
I am seriously cleaning and organizing my home!!! That means I am donating like crazy to a local resale shop that gives their profits to homeless and needy children. They have a super clean store and the employees are very helpful! This store also has deals different days of the week. Mondays are 50% on women's items...etc. Some resale shops only offer discounts to senior citizens...and I don't fit that category...yet!
I love to brag about the items that I have gotten and also have convinced many friends that going resale is not a bad thing. Your not going to a garage sale (although I love doing that too, but not as much anymore).
Going Resale is a fabulous thing! It has saved me hundreds of dollars!

Start saving today!

For years my friends have told me...you need to write a book. I have an uncanny ability to find bargains, use coupons, barter, you name it.
I hope to use this site to share my creative savings with you.
I also look forward to hearing about how you save or make your dollars go further.
Thank you!
